On 18 March 2025, HeX Productions celebrated a decade in working together. To commemorate this, we want to share with you the accessibility journey that we’ve been on.
Our 10 year accessibility timeline
On 18 March 2015, HeX became a private limited company delivering accessible web design and development, audit testing, inclusive training and support.
In June 2015, we opened our first office based in Ilkeston, Nottingham. Soon then becoming Terminalfour’s development partner and since completing 70 projects with them.
In July 2015, we wanted to start to give back to the community and we presented a range of opportunities such as at Beeston Film Festival, through volunteer work, at local fairs, and at Oxjam Music Festivals.
Our stand out accessibility work was being recognised and hit the headlines. We were able to find ourselves popping up in many different published items, gaining headlines such as “a great year for web firm”, “web design firm helps vulnerable”, “agency helps bring charity’s work to life”, “accessibility isn’t an afterthought” and “web firm grows stateside”.
In October 2016, our gleaming reputation reached the United States and with our services now spanning across a range of different countries, including Canada, United States, South Africa, Australia, and England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. In January 2017, our success enabled us to move into the center of Nottingham.
In May 2018, Our accessibility knowledge led us to being part of the Home Office Roundtable to discuss the Digital Accessibility Act for local government. We spoke at many different events, including a range of different WordCamps, both here and the United States, at Accessibility London, hosting our own Global GovJam, and being part of multiple events supporting accessibility. We were raising digital accessibility best practices in schools and higher education. Following all of the work that we did, it led us to bring together our own monthly events called ‘Accessibility Nottingham‘.
In July 2018, our team began to work in partnership with the disabled testing team at the Shaw Trust Accessibility Services, based in Neath.
In December 2018, we became a member of the Disability Rights UK.
In June 2019, all of our good work was recognised and HeX became Nottingham Post Business Award finalist for Excellence in Innovation. And all of that hard work was finally acknowledged from the Business Post Awards in November 2021, where we won the Digital Technology Award category.
In October 2022, our Interactive Empathy Lab was launched, giving students and businesses a unique insight into accessibility.
In August 2023 and June 2024, we had the Digital Accessibility Matters campaign and the Education 4 All campaign. Top disability influencers and educational professionals joined us to actively campaign and raise awareness for the need to remove digital barriers that many disabled people face in society.
From education, healthcare, charity, and public sectors to supporting the arts and e-commerce over the past ten years, we’re proud to support as many businesses as possible with their digital accessibility needs, totalling 180 contracts.
We’ve been proud to be making a difference in helping to shape an inclusive digital world for all, including a range of different clients, such as with Canonical, the NHS, Inspire Culture, Ashfield District Council, Queen Mary University of London, enei, King’s College London, and Broxtowe Borough Council.
Thank you for everything and thank you to the team. Here’s to the next ten years!
