Maintaining your online presence is a key factor in driving people to your website.
Creative Director of HeX Productions James Hall gives his top five tips on how to maintain your website and keep your audience interested in what you’re doing.
1. Keep your CMS up to date:
Keeping your content management system updated is essential to manage workflow. Publishing, editing and modifying content, as well as maintenance from a central interface allows you to have the chance to personalise your site and show off your personality, all while keeping your audience engaged with what you are doing.
2. Keep your plugins up to date:
It is important to keep your plugins up to date, not only for security reasons, but also to keep your website running smoothly. The codes attached to the website will need to be updated to protect from any vulnerabilities that may threaten security, but will also be repaired with an update to ensure the website does not encounter any problems.
3. Keep testing forms:
There’s nothing more annoying than entering all your details into an online form only for it to crash. Not only will you be losing your audience’s interest, but you may also be losing transactions or business. Make sure that relevant links work, the submit button will send the data, and that the inputted information will save as required.
4. Review your text, and ask friends to give it a look over:
Spelling mistakes and poor grammar will come across as unprofessional and make your site look inexperienced. There will be mistakes that you may have missed, so a fresh pair of eyes reading over your content will be beneficial to spot mistakes, but also allow people to give feedback and make suggestions for improvements.
5. Monitor your website traffic:
Knowing where your visitors are coming from allows you to keep an eye on what works and what doesn’t work for your site. Monitoring your traffic will show what people are looking for, what they want to see, and how long they have spent on your site.
